Helping a friend and rather puzzled about 2 Jacobs.

Jacob Cutting born 1895 Bury St Edmonds Suffork, Parents Isabella and William Cutting.
Siblings
Sarah Ann b 1870
Alice b 1873
Adeline b 1874
Florence b 1875
Billy b 1876
Jessie b 1879
Robert b 1882
David b 1887
Mary b 1889
Eliza b 1892
Another sibling born 1865
Jacob H Cutting b 1865, 4 years before parents married.

In the 1901 census Jacob the younger is living with his parents and his father is a greegrocer.
In the 1911 census Jacob now age 16 is living with his grandparents???? looks like the parents to me.
In 1881 William is a farm labourer.

Cannot find a death for Jacob H Cutting.

Now would they name 2 children the same? Did wander if Jacob H was not William's son so when he left home he called his youngest son Jacob.

Any help would be appreciated

well ...

in 1881 Jacob h cutting is with his parents William and isablella aged 16 and down as son and agricultural labourer. father William is labourer.

1891 father William is still a farm labourer but Jacob h is not with them

1901 William is as you say a greengrocer on his own account - not that big a leap from farm labourer to selling fruit on your own account. Jacob junior is with them as you say. no jacob h

1911 William is still a green grocer and with them is Jacob junior but he is down as grandson. I wonder if this is correct and Jacob junior was the son of one of the unmarried daughters in 1901. his birth certificate of 1895 would prove his parentage.

William marries Isabella in 1869 . had he been married before? I cant seem to find them in 1871.

I cant see Jacob h birth reg? suggesting he was registered under another name?

so not being much help really

Gender:Male

Baptism Date:18 Aug 1867

Baptism Place:Horningsea, Cambridge, England

then .......

Name:Jacob Henry Newman

Registration district:Bury St Edmunds

but his birth year is a bit out and he would die after the Jacob cutting was born and named

just trying to think out of the box ... but again not much help

Vron, but not impossible, say the family knew Jacob Henry had not long to live in 1895, to remember him they called the youngest child Jacob. Jacob senior may even of asked the parents to do it. I certainly will not rule it out.

Will look to see if Isabella had married before.

Thanks to looking

Might not help but in 1911 William & Isabella say married 45 years 12 children born 6 still living.

Course they may not have counted Jacob H if he wasn't officially one of "theirs"

Excluding Jacob H there are 10 children on your original list siamese

As vron says plausible he was Isabella's before she married. She marries as Newman but no birth reg for the lad under either surname.

scratch

Think I've found the 1871 under Catton

William 26
Isabella 22
Jacob 4
Sarah 8 months

Jacob down as son, same birth place as Isabella - Horningsea Cambs.

I wonder if Isabella was sent away from home to have the baby?
Assuming he is hers.

Could it be William who was married before?

Wonder if he was just under Henry?

This is the right area tho he should have been older in 1871 than 4

Births Mar 1865

Newman Henry Chesterton 3b 488

Thought I had 12 children

1 Jacob Henry Cutting born 1866 in Chesterton, Cambridgeshire,
2 Sarah Ann Cutting born 1870 in Chesterton, Cambridgeshire
3 Alice Elizabeth Cutting born 1872 in Chesterton, Cambridgeshire
4 Adelaide Cutting born 1874 in xworth Thorpe, Suffolk
5 Florence Cutting born 1875 in Bury St Edmunds
6 William Cutting born 1876 in Bury St Edmunds
7 Jessie Cutting born 1879 in Bury St Edmunds
8 Robert Cutting born 1881 in Bury St Edmunds
10 David Cutting born 1887 in Rougham Suffolk and died 21 Feb 1915 in France and Flanders
11.Mary Cutting born 1889 in Rougham Suffolk
12 Eliza Cutting born 1892 in Rougham Suffolk
13 Jacob Cutting born 1895 in Bury St Edmunds and died 1967 in Folkestone

Interesting, now have 13, wander if the younger Jacob was a Grandson after all, or William did not really count Jacob Henry as he was not his son.

Pssst you haven't got a number 9 Laughing

It's funny that Jacob himself has signed the 1911 so presumably it was he completed the form or oversaw it and put himself as grandson.
