Looking at Hannah Lay born Highworth Wilts c1843 father Benjamin Lay.

Found a marriage for her to John Thomas Highbourne/Heybourne 1867
but on census he always seems to be with a wife named Ann or Annie.

Not too worried about Hannah/Ann names but in 1911 she is Ann Jemima - where did that come from Question born Chinnor Oxon 1851.

Wondering if it is the same gal throughout or a different wife - if a different one when did the wives change?

Grateful for any thoughts.

There's a marriage in Wycombe RegDist in Q2 1879 (3a, 697) between a

John Thomas HEYBOURNE
and an
Ann Jemmiah HOWLETT

Is Wycombe too far away for it to be likely?

PS : Off to see if I can find a death for Hannah ...

Haven't found a death for a Hannah, but I notice that on the 1871, John and Hannah are in Crowell, Oxon.

There's a death in Thame RD, which covers Crowell, in Q2 1878 of a 34yo Annie Heybourn.  Could that be her, perhaps?

Ooh thanks STG that all fits rather well cheers

So the youngest child in 1881 is no doubt from the second Mrs H and the older boys are from the first.

The death for Annie 34 fits nicely - another person resolved bounce

I had a great bit of luck today.  Looking at other lines to investigate I started on gggrandmother's siblings.

One had a suggested link to Australia death index so I posted there and got so much information I was Shocked
Not only confirmed it was my chap but a brother emigrated with him and who their wives, children were, what ship they sailed on even a link to his will and probate which I could view for nothing!

Yes, I looked at the 1881 census and thought exactly the same - that 1yo James is Ann Jemmiah's son.

Well done with the Australian stuff.  It's always good to be able to square a circle, isn't it?
