Baptism 1 January 1806 Olveston.

That is the only information I have.

Would like to know what happened to him etc.

There's a Joseph born 1802 Olv who is in Monmouthshire in 1851.

Unmarried age 49 farmer with 3 servants. Might be him might not.

Yes I've come across him before but not sure. The Williams were all farmers though.
Thanks for looking

Same chap in 1861 unmarried age 59 farmer of 71 acres with a couple of servants.
Add looks like Candwr Farm still in Monmouthshire. Might have been wealthy siamese and left a will.

In 1871 he's a retired farmer age 70 lodging with the farm bailiff still in Monmouthshire. Age is consistently a bit out for yours but it's the closest option.

Assuming he stayed in Monmouthshire this could be his death. Not good with Welsh places but I think Pontypool is the right district for the area he was.

Deaths Jun 1875

Williams Joseph 72

Pontypool 11a 95

Yes you're right he may be older than his baptism date.

Here's a probate, well administration, but is it for the same chap.

"Joseph Williams Farmer a Bachelor who died 16 Mar 1875
granted to Richard Williams of Penywain Farm Farmer the Brother

So did your Joseph have a brother Richard? If not we can cross him off.

As far as I can see Joseph had no brother called Richard. I've had a search on ancestry for Richard but cannot see any born in Olveston South Gloucestershire. But on saying that Joseph's parents James and Mary had five children, James b 1801, George b 1802, Joseph b 1805, Mary b 1808 and John 1816-1816. So quite a gap between Mary and John.

Looks like I'll have to start again. In know on the 1841 census brother James is living with his father James but no sign of Joseph. Both George and Mary are married by then.

Thanks again

1851 has a Richard Williams born 1807 Olveston farmer with wife Mary and children. If he turns up in Wales he could be the brother of the Joseph mentioned but not to prove they are yours.

There is a lone Joseph in 1841 (that doesn't appear to be with a wife and family) and the one we have found was a bachelor so could be the same chap.

And Richard was baptised to Mark and Mary so nothing to do with Joseph.
