1 Sorting out a marriage or a death on Fri Jan 08, 2016 6:19 am

Alfred Henry Bussell born 1864 Bristol, parents John and Jane Bussell. In 1889 Alfred gets married to Catherine Norman, they go on to have 3 children.

On the marriage registration on FMP Alfred is described as a Widower. Found a possible marriage in 1881 to a Rosa Hodge. But cannot find a death for Rosa.

Have tried several ways of spelling her name without luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Happy New Year.

Happy New Year to you too Like a Star @ heaven

Was the 1881 marriage before the census or after? He would only have been 17 if born 1864.

Will have a look for him in 1881 see if he is "with wife" Cool

Well the marriage to Rosa Hodge 4 Jul 1881 does name his father as John so that matches up.

Don't know if this is her but there is a death in Dec 1887 Rosa Bussell age 24 in Bridgewater district.

Not Bristol but I think she came from Somerset area so it could be her.

Would fit with him being a widower and free to remarry in 1889.

Tried to find the Hodge family in Gloucestershire without luck.

The family I see with a Rosa morphs into Ford - mother Ann Hodge must have married a Ford - her husband is Robert (Ford) **

**marriage Jun 1870 Axbridge

I'm not convinced this is the right Rosa but there aren't many options.

1881 the family are in Bristol - Barton R district - will post just in case but I suppose only the 1887 death for Rosa would confirm who her husband was - if she had one.  Tricky.

Robert Ford 42
Ann 40
Rosa 18 born Burnham Somerset
Kate 16
Clare 10
James 8
Susan 5

I did come across that 1871 census and like you not sure, she may of died in child birth and had gone back to her home in Somerset for the birth. She left behind 4 children,

The family are so remount from my line otherwise I would order a death certificate.

Another mystery the youngest son Walter Cozen Bussell bor 1877 never seems to be living at home on the 2 census while he is a child, age 4 as a visitor and at school in 1891.

Thanks
