I found an entry on family search for a Grant Leslie Newman-Duck age 21 died in British Columbia Canada but says born Blantire Scotland 22 Feb 1946.

Father Cecil Henry John Duck born BC mother Edith Rolands born Swinden (assume Swindon) England.

Now I can't find an Edith Rolands but there is an Edith V RoWlands born 1929 Swindon married 1952 Swindon to Leonard J Newman.

Can this be the same lady who somehow got to Scotland to have a son then came back again?

And I've just noticed that she married a Newman and her son has Newman-Duck as a surname so does that mean both men were the father  Shocked

Grateful for any thoughts.  My father knew Cecil around 1948 before he emigrated (he came to this country from Canada when he was 2 per passenger list) and wasn't aware he had a son and/or wife at that time.

I hadn't read the death info properly Embarassed it says Newman-Duck was his adopted surname and he had been in Canada for 11 years so I don't think either of these parents were his "real" parents but he was given both their surnames when he was adopted by them.

I'd like to find a marriage for Edith and Cecil but am not sure where it took place - Canada perhaps but I haven't found her on a passenger list going out there.
Are there Canadian census available like the US as we have an address from the death to go on.

She must have divorced her first husband as have found a likely death for him as late as 1993.

The plot thickens.

I'm a bit confused - nothing new there then Embarassed

I've found a Cecil H Duck, b. 1928, who's a projectionist from an address in Swindon on a passenger list (UK to Montreal) in 1953.

Then I found a voters list from 1953 in Parkdale, Ontario, of a Cecil Duck, a projectionist.  With him is a "Mrs Mabel Duck".  Cecil and Mabel are still together in 1968 although by that time Cecil is listed as retired.  Is that your chappie?

Sorry was out yesterday on safari seeing the new baby rhino at West Midlands - I love rhinos bounce

Back to the plot.  Do not worry I can't get my own head around it let alone be able to explain it to anyone else Laughing

Yes that must be him the projectionist cheers but I don't know who Mable is.  I wonder if he left Edith and his adopted son to themselves.

Edith Duck is the informant when son dies in 1967 and address for her is
7 Widgeon St Kitimat BC.

I've found Edith on a 1968 voters list at 7 Widgeon St. At the same address is a John Duck, a mechanic.

And on a 1974 voters list at the same address. Now she's a medical secretary and at the same address is .....  Cecil, a mechanic.

Is that A Good Thing?  Question

PS : Am not such a fan of rhinos, but I do like the odd hippo.  In fact, we have a bronze hippo sculpture that we call Hippo!

Oh heavens let's think.  Either there are two lots of Ducks called Cecil with same occupations - I can understand mechanic being general but projectionist is more specific - or Question

I wonder who John the mechanic is with Edith, a son perhaps.  Yikes this is hard pale

I don't suppose voters lists have anything more than a name and address.

Hmmm don't think we are going to get much further on this one.  I didn't post it on Roots in case the people are still alive.

Thanks for what you have found but don't waste any more time on it - elections are coming up soon Twisted Evil I had my voting paper yesterday.

In your OP you said he was Cecil Henry John, which makes me wonder if on the first voter list I found he was using John, but on the second he was using Cecil - i.e. that they're one and the same person.

Just thinking out loud.  Feel free to ignore me.  Laughing

I thought exactly the same Very Happy but the fact the Cecil you found with Mabel was a projectionist is concerning scratch

They must be two different people as the dates don't match for him to have gone from one to the other.

He came back to England in 1953 for a visit - address was c/o W Duck a brother who incidentally changed his name from Duck to Anderson because his betrothed refused to be known as Mrs Duck - I think it's rather cute myself study
