Algy Peach born 1917 Shepston Gloucestershire, parents Henry and Kate Peach.
Siblings
William 1899-1918
Julia 1900-1992
Tom 1903-1985
Albert 1905
Leonord 1908-1976
Walter 1911
Sam 1914-1917

I have visited the Gloucester Record Office and have found the sibling's baptisms but no sign of Algy's Have searched nearby parishs and 10 years a head.

My friend says no way would he not have been baptised, but with the loss of one son in 1917 and another in 1918 I wander if the mother found it difficult to face.

Any help would be appreciated

Algy Surprised

I initially wondered if he died soon after and there wasn't time but that doesn't appear to be the case if he is the one marrying in 1942.

Could be under a completely different name, Algy is an unusual one to say the least!
That would be my guess (if there was one)

It is strange. My friend said he was always known as Uncle Algy. If it was not for the registration I would of thought maybe Algy was his second name.

Thanks anyway

I was going to say maybe he was baptised when he was an older child but see you checked 10 years hence so looks like he slipped through the net.

We are going over to Gloucester later and recheck every entry. To be honest I think he escaped the baptism due to his parents distress that year. They meant to have him baptised later but it never happened. Another quiry do you have to be baptised in church to get married?

Good luck with the rechecking.

I wouldn't have thought so. I was never baptised for whatever reason and I got married. That was in a chapel though not a big church. Don't honestly remember being asked if I had been or not.

Think some CoE vicars were more particular than others and would sometimes insist that both bride and groom had been baptised.  The more relaxed ones were happy if just one of the couple had been.

Or he could have just assumed that he had been baptised, told the vicar that and vicar didn't query it.

Could be Vron, and as already mentioned the parents had just lost a 3 year old Sam in 1917 and the following year their oldest son William was killed in France.

Sam was baptised in 1916 during the war.

Thanks
