Another muddle, Hemmings this time

Need help with this family please.

Arthur Hemmings born 1855 Bristol, parents Isaac and Sarah Hemmings. In 1874 Arthur marries Mary Ann Parslow. They had 4 daughters:

Elizabeth b 1877
Emily b 1882
Clara b 1885
Alice b 1891.


On the 1891 census they are living at Sims Alley, Bristol and Arthur is a Shoemaker Cutter.

In 1901 Mary Ann is living with her Mother plus 3 of her daughters. she is described as a widow??

Can find no death reg between 1891 and 1901 for Arthur. But he appears on the 1901 census (if it is him) lodging with the Purnell family, still a Shoemaker but states he is single.

In 1911 Arthur is down as married to Harriet, he is a Boot presser. Can find no marriage between Arthur and Harriet, according to the 1911 census they had been married for 7 years.

Have I overlooked something here need a fresh pair of eyes, I found a death for Arthur in 1930

I don't have Hemmings in my tree, but I do have Hemming.  Sometimes it's written as Heming, Hemming or Hemmings, so maybe you could try other spellings for your peeps too?

well I can confirm all you have found but find no new evidence.

the only thing I would say is that on the 1901 census I think mary ann is down as m for married when the enumerator puts widow  as for mary parslow they write WID

it may be that they had just separated so mary ann still put married

in 1911 she still put wife down so she still considers herself married. I note she had 7 children - 3 of which died . have you found their details

An out of work boot presser in 1911 and can anyone read what it says under "head" and "wife" which has been written on top of whatever was there originally?

Might not be significant but curious.
