had a quick look for the marriages of the parents belonging to these births and the only one which seems to be with a father john

is STEAD John mmn Spittle Lancaster 8e 1224

- father john and mother florence married bradford 1910.this couple in 1911 appear to be in newbury berks . she is from bradford he is from didsbury lancs. His occupation is a “manual training teacher”

Ah that sounds good vron - manual training teacher whatever "manual" means.

I can see that John in 1901 born Didsbury but living Bradford. He is aged 17.
Father another John 54 born Wetherby. Both Johns joiner/carp.

I think what we've found is good enough for me. He wasn't a close relation of mine, he was linked to my husbands family by marriage so will leave it there.

I said in an earlier post that I didn't know how to search on-line newspaper archives.

I've recently started supporting in an "Advanced Family History" course and this week's tutorial included a mention of Infotrac.

From our local council website, searched for "infotrac" and then follow the link, putting our library card membership number in at the appropriate place, we got access to whatever newspapers are online there. Not a complete set, but there might be something useful, nevertheless.

Tutor also said that the British Library newspaper archive is a subscription site.

So, I now know a bit more than I did a week ago.
