Teeny tangle

Trying to untangle the origins of Elizabeth Jane Atkins bap 27 Jan 1833 Southwick Hants mother Jane Atkins.

Elizabeth Jane married William Pashley 26 May 1860 Manchester.
She's a spinster but puts her father as John Higgins occupation carrier.

Where did he come from   
Just a made up name or any basis in fact.

I can't find Elizabeth with her mother (or father) in 1841/1851 and sadly she and William have both died by 1871.

Any suggestions welcome   

Is it possible that Elizabeth Jane's mother married a John Higgins, so that EJ regarded him as her father, even if he may not have been her biological one?

Seems the most logical explanation doesn't it.

Found a tree with Jane Atkins marrying Benjamin Hill Rogers in 1847 but can't view it.  Death for Jane Rogers in 1858 and for Benjamin in 1857.

she is down as daughter in law but the connection seems to be that William voller married an Elizabeth atkins in 1839

Gosh thanks for all that vron. Voller rings a bell for some reason so will have a good look at everything  

On the 1861 census for William Pashley and wife Elizabeth J there is a Matilda Vollar sister in law 21 from Southwick Hampshire.

Still can't quite puzzle it out unless Elizabeth Atkins who married William Voller was her mother not Jane and I have the wrong baptism.

but looked again at the image for the 1861 with jane atkins on and it actually says daughter by marriage not daughter in law.  this would suggest that Elizabeth jane atkins/voller  was  the mother of Elizabeth jane atkins who married William pashley.

now as Elizabeth jane atkins didn't marry William voller until 1836 it would appear that the john Higgins Elizabeth jane atkins junior puts on marriage cert must be her real father. if you were going to make up a father to cover illegitimacy you would give him same surname as yourself.

Elizabeth jane atkins senior appears to be this one?

I've been looking at the Voller children and have found more tangles but that's for another day and not as important as it's only Rhoda who is directly descended.

None of her children survived to have children sadly - unless Alice had one straight after she married but I haven't found one.

I also found this baptism of a jane atkins - sibling to Elizabeth jane the elder and think she is probably the mother referred to in the baptisms that just give jane .
