According to a tree on ancestry James Trott had 2 sons called James.

James Trott born 1847 Bristol, married Mary Ann Farmer in 1888. James joined the royal navy when young.

They had 5-6 children
James born 1879
William b 1889
Charlotte 1882-1883
Dorothy b 1895
John b 1897

Now according to this ancestry tree another James was born in 1888.

Have a birth reg for the first James
Births Mar 1879 (>99%) Trott James Bedminster 5c 717
but can find find nothing for the second nor a death for the first.

Any help would be appreciated.

on vessel in Naples.

though i can see a james trott in 1891 with a son james born 1879 so where was he in 1881

now in 1901 the second james appears
1901
Name: James Trott
Age: 15
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1886
Relation: Son
Father's Name: James Trott
Mother's Name: Mary A Trott
Gender: Male
Where born: Clifton, Gloucestershire, England
Civil parish: Bristol
Ecclesiastical parish: St Andrew and St James
County/Island: Gloucestershire
Registration district: Bristol
Sub-registration district: Clifton
ED, institution, or vessel: 2
Household Members: Name Age
James Trott 53
Mary A Trott 43
William Trott 11
Charlotte Trott 8
James Trott 15
Dorothy M Trott 5
John A Trott 3

Source Citation: Class: RG13; Piece: 2365; Folio: 41; Page: 12

but he is in a strange order in the list and when you look at the original the name louisa was written first and then crossed out and james written above but it does say son etc.

in 1911 she says she had 5 children - alive and one dead - so it looks like the james is the same one and perhaps his age given as younger because he preceded their marriage? though in 1881 i can see her mary ann farmer as a servant so where was james junior born 1879

so in conclusion i have changed my mind Very Happy

i think it is the right 1891 census but james senior had a different occupation. wife mary ann still born honiton.

i think your james and mary ann just had the one james born 1890

so i think the 1879 bedminster james trott birth reg you find belongs to a different james trott.

Oh forgot to mention. You mentioned on the 1911 census 5 children born, 1 died. Charlotte died in 1893.
