Can find very little information on my Great Grandfather x 2 before 1861.
Samuel Lovelace Shepherd born 1824 Pilning Gloucestershire married to Amey Scriven in 1854. I do have the marriage certificate nameing George Shepherd shopkeeper as his father.

I have a baptism from family search but apart from that I cannot find any confirmed information that I have the correct George as the father.

name: Samuel Loveless Shepherd
event: Christening
event date: 08 Mar 1824
event place: Almondsbury, St Mary, Gloucestershire, England

father: George Shepherd
mother: Sarah Shepherd

film number: 4254873
digital folder number: 4254873
image number: 00063

The George I have as his father is George Shepherd born 1805 (c) Almondsbury, Innkeeper/postmaster and shopkeeper in 1870. Found a George on the 1851 census living/staying with a sister Ann, birth 1810 which would make him only 11 when he married Sarah in 1821. George married Sarah Adams in 1821 Almondsbury.

Have siblings for Samuel
Thomas Lovelace Shepherd b 1822
Hester Ann Shepherd b 1825
Mary Jane Elizabeth Lovelace Shepherd b 1827
John Adams Shepherd b 1830
Ellen Adams Shepherd b 1830.

Any information pre 1861 would be very helpful as I am trying make sure I have the correct details, and can find very little about George let alone finding the family to gether.

1841 a 15 year old in Almondsbury, not with family, but there is Adams* family on
the same page so could be the same person as 1851 working on farm?

*Ah just noticed the Adams connection in the list of siblings you posted so he could well be a nephew.

That sounds interesting, Tourmie, the 1851 census for Samuel, it connects him to the Adams family so very likely George Shepherd and Sarah Adams were his parents.
Sarah's father was called Samuel and she had a brother called Samuel born 1802 Almondsbury

I have a death for George in 1870 13 Jul 1870
Thornbury
Deaths Sep 1870 Shepherd George 58 Thornbury

Sarah dies in 1860 so maybe that is why the family split up, but where are they.
Henbury is on the outskirts of Bristol.

Thanks

Difficult one as nobody seems to be together do they especially George and Sarah.

Interesting possible for Thomas in 1851, born Almondsbury 1823, married to Maria and governer of little dean house of correction!

1841 doesnt give relationships - i have been thinking that sarah webb is sarah shepherd remarried after george dies. 1851 ellen says daughter in law but she is single and they often used that term for stepdaughter

Trying to ge my head around this. So George Shepherd died in 1833 not 1870? Sarah remarries to William Webb in 1835?

Not to sure about that death although it would explain why no sign of George. I have the marriage certificate for son Samuel in 1854 to Amey Scriven which states that the father George is a shop keeper (no mention of him being dead) but I have a probate for a George dieing in 1870
Probate Notes
Name: George Shepherd Probate Date: 31 Aug 1870 Death Date: 13 Jul 1870 Death Place: Gloucestershire, England Registry: Gloucester..by the oath of William Evans Shepherd of Thornbury, aforesaid. General shopkeeper the son the surviving Excuter. £600

Its the mention of a shop keeper

thats my theory

sarah then dies in 1843

children have scattered by 1851 except for hester who is with william webb

it doesnt have to have deceased on marriage certs

Thanks Vron, You have done quite abit of research into the Shepherd family. I think a death certificate is required. Seeing the children are living with William and Sarah Shepherd there must be some relationship. The more I think about it you may well be right, but to prove it.

i can see him on 1871 census - a grocer married with children . he gives a birth date of 1838. so where is he is 1841 - he is not with the other children

I think a different Shepherd family, Vron, going back to the 1833 death which I think may well be correct. In 1830 George was a shop keeper and does the father when put on a certificate put down as dead or alive going back to other certificates I have ordered I would say no.

Another factor the surname Lovelace goes though several generations.

Vron, going onto something else, what do you think of Find My Past?

Thanks for your help.

Snap, you are correct, Vron, Have been though all the messages in this thread and found this address where the Webb family lived on the 1841 census "Black Horse Inn, Almondsbury" George and Sarah with their children where living there in 1830.

Thanks for your help, Vron and Tourmie.
