Following on from discovering new relative Emily Hinchliffe/Sharpe/Haigh/Haigh I am looking for the two children from her first marriage Clara Sharpe b 1876 Huddersfield and John William Sharpe b 1879 Huddersfield.

I have found a probable marriage for Clara in 1898 to Fred Tunnacliffe and a son Herbert 1899. They are together in 1901 but I haven't found 1911 yet.

Any more info would be great. I wonder also if Emily had any more children Question She was young enough when widowed to have had more. None are mentioned on the 1911 census with third husband Allen Haigh.

Thanks vron yes I think we have the right marriages there. Thomas Hinchliffe witness on both was Claras uncle and Emilys brother.

I've sent off for Emilys second marriage to William Haigh to see what name she puts for her father there. I got her birth certificate which confirms father Mark Hinchliffe.

Interested in the first two husbands and when they died. Am presuming all was above board and she was safely widowed each time.

marriage 1 - George Sharpe 1874 deceased by 1881 census. Son born 1879.
marriage 2 - William Haigh 1884 deceased by 1891 census.
marriage 3 - Allen Haigh 1896 no children listed on 1911.

Not found any more children apart from the Sharpe two yet.

Oh good yes that looks like them in 1911. Not so good there is a death for Florence in 1916 aged 14.

Back to George Sharpe there is a death for George Sharp (no e) in Sep 1880 Huddersfield age 23 but that's way too young as he was 20 in 1874 per the marriage certificate.

Beginning to think I might have gone wrong somewhere now pale

I tend to forget Hinchliffe is a common name in Yorkshire as it was so rare in my area when I was growing up. I have explained away Emily putting her father as John Hinchliffe not Mark as her stepfather was John but not that good an explanation is it.

Hopefully the marriage to William Haigh will confirm a few things.

Enough waffling for tonight Sleep

Got the marriage certificate this morning and Emily Sharpe widow does give her father as Mark Hinchliffe. Phew you know how you doubt yourself sometimes in this game Basketball

William Haigh was 31 bachelor and a stone mason. Father Abraham Haigh stone mason.
Something to go on to investigate William. Not found his death yet but it was before 1891. Marriage date 13 December 1884.

vron

that is good news re the father. i was beginning to think it might have been different Emily's although it did all seem to fit.

will have a look round later to see if i find anything else

did wonder if there was some sort of relationship betweeen william and allen haigh ( ie both haigh husbands) but cant see one yet.

Haigh seems to be a common Yorkshire name doesn't it. That must be him with father Abraham a stone dresser.

Good spot with the witness being a Beckwith Like a Star @ heaven
There's a Lucy Beckwith born 1874 Huddersfield but she seems to belong to a different family with parents William and Elizabeth.

Not so concerned about the last husband (at least presume he was the last!) but would like to know when the other two died. George Sharpe in particular seems elusive. Very narrow window for him too 1879-1881 scratch

vron

can't seem to find any of the husbands deaths.

There are several William Haigh Huddersfield deaths in the time frame. 1886 age 32 is close or 1891 age 38.

Can you see any possibles for George Sharpe before he married?

Marriage certificate says he was bachelor age 20 in July 1874 so he should be on 1861/1871 somewhere. Father William a miner. Residence at time of marriage Shelf but don't know where born.

Update someone has found me a George born Halifax 1857 which ties in with a death Huddersfield 1880 age 23. Places are right area but age is out.

Have found a William Sharp coal miner 1861 with a George born Clifton.
1871 William Sharpe is a beerhouse keeper with George 14 in Hipperhlome.

If he was that young when he married he may have upped his age to a more respectable 20.

Not entirely sure but is the best option on the table.
