Please could this muddle be sorted out.

On the 1861 census we have
Thomas Norton born 1805 Marseyhamten, Gloucestershire
Sarah Norton born 1801 Ampney, Gloucestershire
Mary Ann King born 1833 Siddington, Gloucestershire
Stephen Norton born 1835 ditto
Emily Norton born 1838 ditto
Ann King born 1859 ditto
James Norton born 1859 ditto

Now Mary Ann King is a daughter and a widow, cannot find a marriage for her
Ann King is discribed as a Neice, and James Norton as a grandson.

Any help would be appreciated

Will do our best siamese.

I wonder if Mary Ann had already been married before Mr King and was widowed so the marriage would be under her previous married name not Norton Question

In 1871 Thomas & Sarah are harbouring Annie King 11 granddaughter & Henry Norton 10 grandson.

Taking Cirencester as the registration district there's one King that died in Jun 1859 - Charles - that could be the husband/father.

Still can't find a marriage though. Birth certificate for Ann I guess to find out for sure.

It's a bit odd she was described as a niece not a granddaughter in 1861.

Even bigger mystery is James Norton. It says 2 and "days old" Question in the occupation column in 1861 so who had he just popped out of - Emily?

I can't see birth for him either. Is he the same 10 year old grandson Harry with Thomas & Sarah in 1871 or is that another stray grandchild.

Do not think the person I was helping would be interested in ordering any certificates, it was just that the family appeared to have more behind the scenes. Mary Ann may not even of married but just changed her name to the father's surname.

Thanks for looking
